Urban Flora of Newcastle & North Tyneside

The first comprehensive account of the wild flora of the Newcastle and North Tyneside conurbation, one of the largest urban areas in the United Kingdom.Based on six years of systematic fieldwork, by the author and other local botanists, this volume documents more than 1,120 native and naturalised plant species, representing approximately one-third of the British flora. It examines a wide range of urban habitats, from pavement crevices and industrial sites to wooded denes, wetlands and the River Tyne, demonstrating the coexistence of rare orchids, ballast flora, garden escapes and more familiar and widespread urban species.This illustrated Flora provides an analysis of the region’s habitats, environmental history and changing plant assemblages.
